Anthem by Ayn Rand

Anthem was a philosophically thought provoking book for me. It is set during a futuristic dark ages, and showcases the impact of collectivism on a society. Individuality is completely eliminated from the world, and everyone must work and think for the good of the whole. This book made me realize the beauty of independence and free thought, and how important they are to keeping the world a healthy and flourishing place. It made me realize how important it is to educate ourselves as much as we possibly can. Ignorance can be a very dangerous thing, and we must do everything in our power to prevent it.

We fear what we do not understand, and, in my opinion, it is our individual responsibilities to make sure that we do not live in fear. Ayn Rand is far ahead of her time in this story of discovery and independence. Her concept of Objectivism is an interesting theory, and I reccommend her works to every curious human being. We should no longer let ourselves be a part of the “mindless human herd.” We should seek to discover all of the unknown secrets of the earth, and channel our energy into creating out own destinies, instead of following a predetermined path.
